1. Swap your coffee or tea to a Fairtrade brand
One of the easiest things you can do to support Fairtrade Fortnight is to swap your usual coffee or tea brand to a Fairtrade labelled brand. You can now buy Fairtade coffee and tea in the major supermarkets, in the Oxfam stores and other speciality shops, and online.
2. Join the Fairtrade Association
The Fair Trade Association of Austalia and New Zealand (FTAANZ) is hub of the fair trade movement for the region. You can become a business member, or join as a an individual. This is a great way to become involved and be kept up to date on all things Fairtrade.
3. Show off your Swap
This Fairtrade Fortnight you are being encouraged to Show off your Swap to Fairtrade by taking a photo of yourself with your Fairtrade item, and uploading it to the Fairtrade Fortnight website. There are some great prizes to win, including a 10kg block of Fairtrade Chocolate. Yes - I said 10kg.
4. ‘Like’ the Fairtrade Facebook page
Link up with other like minded Fairtrade friendly folk by ‘Liking’ the Fairtrade Facebook page. They share lots of Good stories about Fairtrade, and keep you up to date on upcoming events.
5. Ask your workplace to Swap to Fairtrade
Most of us drink a lot of coffee and tea at work, especially if we are office bound folk. Ask your workplace to switch to Fairtrade brands of coffee and tea to keep the troops watered, and then they can stand proud and say they are a Fairtrade workplace. There are some great resources to help you do this on the Fairtrade website, as well as encouraging stories from businesses that have made the swap.
6. Listen and learn more about Fairtrade
It’s important to keep reminding ourselves of why we are doing this. Read up on the great work that Fairtrade are doing, and listen to the latest supplier stories on the Fairtrade website. You can also subscribe to Fairtrade on Youtube.
7. Attend the launch of Fairtraders of Australia
This year Fairtrade Fortnight is launching Fairtraders of Australia at 12 o'clock at the Manly Fairtrade Market on Saturday May 7th. Go along and find out all about this great initiative, plus find some excellent gifts for Mothers Day at the market.
8. Follow Fairtrade on Twitter
Be up to the minute with the latest conversation about all things Fairtrade. Do a search for #Fairtrade and you find who is saying what about Fairtade, you may also want to follow some of them. Tweet about your Fairtrade stories and thoughts, and add #FairtradeFortnight to your tweet to spread the word.
9. Ask your local café to swap to Fairtrade coffee and tea
Where do you buy your morning latte? Ask them if they use Fairtrade coffee and tea, and if not encourage them to do so. You will find a whole bunch of resources on the Fairtrade website to help you. They can also Show off their Swap and win great Fairtrade prizes.
10. Tell your friends about Fairtrade Fortnight
Lastly – tell your friends and family about Fairtrade Fortnight. Pass on this list and encourage them to get involved and be a part of the fun. As they say, the longest journey starts with one just one step.
