Punk Clown Kids' Clothes at Glebe Markets

Thursday, 26 August 2010

Looking for something a bit different for the kids to wear? Passionate about sustainable business, Lee Rickwood has unleashed her creativity once again, launching her new line of recycled and revamped kids' clothing, Punk Clown.

Lee had her first go at creating new clothing from used piece in the early 90’s, focusing then on customised recycled knitwear. Lee took pre-loved jumpers and cardigans, often hand knitted by mothers or grandmothers, and reconstructed them into contemporary designs. “It was wonderful to be able to give these garments and family memories new life.”

“It seems like now is the right time to try to start my business again,” says Lee. I met Lee at the Exchange for Change ethical clothing festival, which was all about supporting sustainable and ethical fashion. The increasing interest in sustainable and ethical fashion inspired Lee. “Under my own name, I recently made my first range of recycled streetwear for kids called Punk Clown.” Current products are made from locally sourced recycled garments or dead stock (that would otherwise be sent to landfill), scrap fabrics and salvaged trims. “I have taken good quality recycled clothing and customised them with a punk feel. Every piece is unique and playful.”

“Fun loving designs inspired by nature” are a key part Lee’s philosophy “… to be an ever improving sustainable business that celebrates life.” Lee is already working on other products including streetwear for women and men.

So come on over to Glebe on Saturday and celebrate life a little. You can check out our markets, have a coffee, meet Lee and treat your kids to some clothes that are different, fun – and Good.
